During Easter Sunday, two men wanted to settle scores with their elderly neighbor in Alešova Street in Jablonec nad Nisou, and repeatedly shot through the fence and mature thuja trees in the direction of his garden during the afternoon and early evening.

When the younger of the men fired for the last time, it was precisely at the time when the city policemen were called in to investigate the Tujas. “One of them was hit in the hand by a blow from an air rifle. The shooter fired several shots into the thuja, thinking that a neighbor was moving behind them,” described police spokeswoman Dagmar Sochorová.

In response, the officers called in additional police patrols. When gunmen with long guns and ballistic shields also arrived, they burst in and detained the two men who had been shooting during the day. “In addition, the older of the men threatened the senior in a dangerous way that afternoon, causing him to fear for his health and life,” added the spokeswoman.

Too loud a party

The cause of the neighborhood dispute was supposed to be a too noisy celebration. An elderly man allegedly demanded that the neighbors be quiet. But he was answered with air rifle shots and threats.

Both shooters are being investigated at large. For the commission of the crime of bodily harm in the stage of an attempt in the form of complicity, for which both are charged, and for making dangerous threats, for which the older of the men is prosecuted, they face up to three years in prison if convicted.
