Spring Pilsen as a Christmas present

--

One of my characteristics is that I have a limited imagination. It may be surprising at first glance. After all, a teacher with twenty years of experience must not only have a sense of humor, but also the ability to improvise. In addition, when I’m in a good mood and I’m with friends, I can be (supposedly) funny. Or that’s what I think of myself at that moment.

It’s all possible, but (fortunately) I’m aware of my limits. The first of them manifests itself when buying clothes, glasses or food. Klapetk’s principle is that it should mainly happen quickly and no experiments. Then it shows, for example, during cooking. I’m happy to get involved in the preparation of raw materials, but I’m not going to continue exploring with combat. And it is best if it is a food that has been tried and tested many times.

But it manifests itself most clearly on another occasion. Moreover, it is a challenge that repeats itself with relentless regularity. I mean birthday and Christmas presents. Coming up with something for my nearest and dearest that goes beyond the horizon of vouchers for everything is simply quite an exhausting task. They are not difficult at all, I just have no imagination.

April weather was surprisingly constant.

The last celebration of the birth of the special child in Bethlehem had a traditional course. A letter to Santa for the first half of the family, proven and still popular vouchers for the second half of the family. But what about the person closest to me, and actually to a certain extent for me as well? That’s usually a bigger problem. I finally figured it out. The solution was the promise of a joint weekend in Pilsen.

I go here regularly about twice a year. Once usually during a business trip to Stuttgart. For the second time, on some occasion, at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of West Bohemia. I have colleagues in several departments and friends in one. We have already been here on one short vacation. In addition, I also took my male and female students here on a religious excursion. So where to return and what to see new?

We arrived on Saturday at lunch time and went to a proven restaurant. Many locals and tourists from all over the world had a similar idea. Luckily we managed to get a table even without a reservation. When we immediately asked if they had 11 on tap, the waiter responded rather dumbfounded. In the end, everything was explained and the non-filter twelve was seriously excellent.

The lobby of our hotel was impressive. By the way, maximum satisfaction with the services.

We stayed in one of the oldest hotels in the city. It was a short walk from the train station and the main square. So we were close to the tram and straight to the center. We also tried the accommodation based on internet reviews. They were so strange that it was impossible to pass without a visit. As in the case of our happy summer holiday in Corfu, it was confirmed that we have a slightly different opinion about many things.

We spent Saturday afternoon visiting the Zoo. It was a very nice day, so many families with children got the idea logically. Fortunately, the campus is quite large. This is actually a great fusion with the botanical park. I recommend the savvy lion pavilion right at the main entrance. And then I fell in love with the Chinese pavilion of the Golden Fish and the magical Japanese garden.

It’s paradoxical. The Chinese pavilion can be seen from afar, but is hidden in the immediate vicinity. Very ingenious.

On Sunday, we were woken up by the bells of the Franciscan church. In the morning we had only one item on the agenda. A visit to Semler’s residence, i.e. one of the interiors designed by the architect Adolf Loos. We have seen his other Pilsen realizations before, this stop was our last.

Semler’s residence is located on Klatovská třída. Tram No. 4 will take you to the Dobrovského stop.

Compared to other Loos interiors, the villa is a little further from the city center. If you decide to go for the beauty of architecture, I recommend buying tickets for a specific tour online. Above all, don’t go exactly to the beginning of the tour, take some time for the pleasant cafe on the ground floor. Take a nice walk around the building, go up to the garage terrace, etc. After enjoying the wonderful interiors of Semler’s residence, you will better understand the interesting details in its exterior as well.

What would you recommend me to visit in Pilsen? Thanks for your tips in the comments. I will be happy to use them on my next visit to the metropolis of Western Bohemia.
