Traditionally, for the first time in the season, the largest Czech traveling street food festival – Burger Festival – is heading to Olomouc. More than 30 burger makers and other creators of the best Czech street food will demonstrate their art this week at Galeria Šantovka. The organizers promise news in the program, Roman Paulus will also go on tour with the festival.

“Olomouc will be the first of a series of 33 festivals that we are planning this year. We will go to 26 cities together, we will return to the biggest ones twice. This of course also applies to Olomouc,” festival organizer Bedřich Snášel calculates the parameters of this year’s festival “line”. And it adds another portion of news – in addition to the record number of events and burger makers, street food fans can also look forward to a much richer accompanying program.

“We are happy that we have joined forces with Roman Paulus, who will go to selected events with his Paulus Bistro. It will of course start in Olomouc, where it is “at home” Snášel alludes to the fact that the Michelin-starred chef’s business is located near Šantovka in the Envelopa administrative complex. Roman Paulus prepared four burgers for the fans, in addition to the traditional beef, diners can also look forward to a pulled pork or lamb burger.

Roman Paulus will also be one of the stars of the accompanying program. In his cooking show, he will present his burgers, as well as tips and tricks for their preparation. Visitors can also look forward to more moderated competitions and interesting presentations by partners. This also applies to the first festival in Olomouc. It will also offer an exceptionally strong line-up of burger makers. Fans will be able to choose from fifteen burger restaurants, each of which offers at least three types of burgers.

Last year’s regulars will not be missing, led by the most popular establishment of 2023, Brno’s U Dřeváka Beer&Grill. The popular Amici, for example, will return to the festival program after a one-year break. Other popular establishments will also come from Brno – for example The Immigrant, Patyzón, Esco-bar, Burger Ya or last year’s “jumper” of the season, which enchanted even the visitors of the February prologue of the season – the Burger Festival Arena event at the Brno exhibition grounds.

Exotic insects and a rush of sweets

The festival offer of spices and a burger from GRIG. In it, instead of traditional meat, diners will find a burger made from a structured protein from insects, specifically from the larvae of the blackworm. The burger, which surprises with its balanced taste, is an ecological and at the same time exotic alternative to traditional burgers that visitors can taste.

In addition to burgers, the organizers are also expanding another range of street food – salty and sweet. In addition to the traditional fries, the Corn Dog is an essential part of the festival, and sweet tooth lovers will most often look for the stand with Los Churros and the increasingly popular bubble waffle, which will be brought by ChiBubbles. And diners can also look forward to the popular Judyth Sweet Art macaroons made from almond flour. Thanks to this, even people allergic to gluten will enjoy them. Some sellers will also prepare special buns for them, so they will also enjoy the burger offer.

Individual sellers also fight with each other for the favor of visitors. For every burger they eat, they can give one vote to their favorite burger joint. “Voting is again electronic this year, but we have simplified the voting system even more and it is as comfortable as possible. People can find a QR code with entry to the voting application at every seller, the system also remembers the pre-filled data, so voting really only takes a few clicks.” says Bedřich Snášel. From the votes, not only will the three most popular burger makers emerge, who will be able to brag about the prestigious medal, but also three winners, who will receive vouchers for burgers worth a total of 3,500 crowns.

The festival takes place at Galeria Šantovka from April 26 to 28. Burger makers fire up their grills on Friday as early as ten in the morning, it is open every day until nine in the evening, on Sunday the festival ends an hour earlier.
