The thief in Brno was not happy for long after stealing a purse in a tram. A passing driver intervened

--

The incident happened shortly after midday, a driver passing by the Jewish Cemetery heard a scream and saw a young man running away and throwing things out of a woman’s purse that he was holding. Cries of “catch the thief” were also heard.

“The driver stopped for an elderly woman who was screaming for help. She confirmed to him that she had been robbed on the tram,” described police spokeswoman Petra Hrůzová.

He had to call the police himself

The man in the vehicle began to chase the suspect, after a few minutes he caught up with him, ran out of the car and arrested the young man. The bystander then asked to call the police. “Unfortunately, no one responded. So the man kneed the suspect so that one of his hands was free, so he could take out his mobile phone and call the police,” the spokeswoman described.

“We thank the brave man who caught the perpetrator. We are glad that there are people who are not indifferent to what is happening around them. There’s no need to throw yourself into danger, but you can help a lot even by reporting immediately and anonymously to the emergency line,” added Petra Hrůzová.
