Mobile homes are a hit at construction fairs. With or without wheels

--

“I have a place to live, but I would like to put the mobile home in the garden I own. It has an area of four thousand square meters, I commute about fifteen kilometers to it, and I would quite like to spend the night there. A house on wheels would be a solution, but the local town hall doesn’t like it, they say it would be ugly. They have a similar approach to other similar houses that are already in the locality,” told us the man, who did tell us where his garden is, but because of good relations with the town in the close neighborhood of Brno, he does not want to name the village.

“I suppose I can convince them. Everyone tells me that I am right, because it is not a fixed building,” said the pensioner.

The interest in smaller buildings, which are most often made of wood, but also of other materials, is further supported by the fact that the new Building Act provides for an increase in the maximum area for small buildings from the current 25 m2 to 40 m2 built-up areas. Small buildings do not require a building permit, which is why modular houses represent the administratively easiest way to housing.

Beware of price differences

The price is certainly important for all those interested in mini houses and mobile homes. And it can be very different. At the Brno construction fairs, which started on Wednesday, we saw a furnished house measuring 21 m2 for almost one and a half million crowns or a much larger wooden “barrack” measuring 10 x 4 m, also fully equipped, for one and a quarter million including VAT.

Professionals will bring the building to the designated plot, although in this case the transport is a bit more complicated, it is being moved without a roof.

However, the price range of mini-houses and mobile homes is, of course, much more varied. However, they have one thing in common. At the fairs and not only there, they attract visitors to visit and, as many say, to live.

Some of the houses are certainly deliberately reminiscent of old circus maringotkas, while others show how ingeniously one can manage space in a house on wheels, which weighs only three and a half tons, but also offers sleeping in the attic.

“I think houses on wheels or mobile homes have a great future. But I think we still have a lot to learn where these houses have been produced for a long time. We should learn primarily in the selection of materials, insulation procedures and the like,” said Petr Vančura, a visitor to the fair from Kutná Hora, to Novinkám, who admitted that he came to Brno for inspiration because he himself also produces so-called tiny houses.

Construction fairs in Brno will last until Saturday.
