The load on Prague 6 with individual car traffic, which is heading to the capital from the north-west of the metropolis, is attacking the limits of carrying capacity. Prague 6 has prepared a set of measures that will support travel by public transport. At a joint meeting, representatives of Prague 6 presented them to the mayors of the municipalities whose residents will be most affected by the upcoming news. The first changes should come already in the summer.

The Six measures follow up on the state of traffic emergency, which it declared three years ago. “We will take further measures to limit individual car traffic. In the first phase, BUS lanes will be established and expanded on Karlovarská, Jugoslávské partisanů, Evropská and Roztocká roads. In the future, we are considering the establishment of light barriers and we are going to increase the prices for visitor parking,” Mayor Jakub Stárek reports.

Prague 6 is taking the situation into its own hands in response to the still unfinished Prague Ring Road and the missing P+R parking lots. “Columns in Prague 6 are expanding into the inner city and into residential areas where they don’t belong. We want to protect our residents and move the standing queues to places outside the housing development, for example along the Vltava,” adds the councilor for transport Ondřej Matěj Hrubeš and adds: “All steps are aimed at strengthening public transport travel. BUS lanes on backbone roads will be valid indefinitely and will be longer. We will request the extension of surveillance cameras to other BUS lanes and also appeal to the Police of the Czech Republic and the City Police to check them regularly. The respectability of these lanes must be increased.” At the same time, Prague 6 demands from the capital dynamic traffic control on the borders with Prague 6, similar to the case of the tunnels of the city ring road.

The mayors of Roztok, Únětic, Municipalities of Prague Suchdol, Horoměřice, Úholiček, Velké Přílep, Libčice, Holubice, Lichocevsi took part in the joint meeting organized by the Prague 6 district. They described the measures being prepared by Prague 6 as unpopular but understandable. He sees starting a discussion and finding compromises and common solutions as a good step. In their opinion, the leadership of the Central Bohemian Region, whose representatives will be invited to the next planned meeting, should also contribute to this. Among other things, this should open up the issue of the unfinished Prague Ring Road. “We perceive the needs of Prague 6, which is often a catchment area for our people. I am glad that Prague 6 is ready to go on a common path,” stated the deputy mayor of Roztok Tomáš Novotný.
