Pedestrians will finally see crossings at the busy U Jána intersection near the Pilsen brewery. Over 50,000 cars and more than 600 trams pass through the section on weekdays. The only option for pedestrians to cross the road is a footbridge. Many people therefore shorten their journeys and risk crossing the four-lane road. Work on the extensive reconstruction will begin next year. In addition to transitions, they will also include the modification of engineering networks or public lighting.

Pilsen will apply for a subsidy to add crossings at the U Jána intersection. She could receive up to 17 million crowns. The addition of crossings is part of the planned and extensive reconstruction of the intersection. This is a project worth approximately one hundred million crowns. Construction should begin in 2025.

“The aim is to increase the safety of pedestrians and cyclists. Pedestrians cannot now cross the individual arms of the intersection at the U Jána intersection, and the natural pedestrian routes from Pražská Street to Prazdroj Brewery and from Mikulášská to Tyršová Street are blocked. The individual branches of the intersection will therefore be modified to create places for crossing, and sidewalks will also be created along Ukrainská street.” explained the deputy for transport and the environment Ales Tolar (TENT).

The city published the new and exactly the same form of the intersection with transitions on visualizations already in 2020, source: visualization: STAVplan-CZ s.r.o.

The project also includes modifications to the engineering networks of sewage, water supply, electric traction and public lighting. “Currently, this is a very busy section, which after construction modifications can become the most direct link between the city center and the area of Plzeňské Prazdroj, which is frequently visited by tourists.” added the mayor Novel Zarzycky (YES).

In the case of receiving a grant of 17 million crowns, the city will finance the project with 37.3 million crowns, the Directorate of Roads and Highways with 14.6 million crowns, and the Pilsen Waterworks with 31.1 million crowns.
