From May 2, students, academics and the general public can view the “CONSTRUCTION AND WATER” exhibition at the Center for Natural Sciences and Engineering (CPTO) on the UJEP campus. The exhibition of 20 posters was created as an output of the WATER 2020 conference. It presents water as an essential part of our lives, follows the path of water in the landscape and settlements, maps the meeting of water with man and the surrounding inanimate and living nature as well as its influence on construction works.

Until May 28th, a freely accessible exhibition will be available in the lobby of the CPTO, which introduces water as an indispensable element of our daily life. It emphasizes its importance for our survival and support, but also reminds us of its destructive power that we have to deal with.

“Water is without a doubt the current topic of our time, and this year it has become a kind of thematic thread for us at CPTO. After the exhibition about the destructive power of water – 150 years since the flood in Blšanka in 1872 – the exhibition now follows, which reflects, among other things, the issues of responsible and sustainable handling of water in the landscape. We are very happy that we can once again open our spaces to the public and support dialogue across different disciplines,” says Regina Herma, vice dean for external and foreign relations of the Faculty of Economics and Business UJEP.

The exhibition BUILDING AND WATER was created on the occasion of the WATER 2020 conference, which was organized by the Czech Union of Civil Engineers (ČSSI) on the 30th anniversary of the resumption of its activities and the 155th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Engineers and Architects in the Kingdom of Bohemia. The conference was organized in cooperation with the Czech Chamber of Authorized Engineers and Construction Technicians (ČKAIT).

“The exhibition also presents current trends and benefits of water management measures in free and urbanized landscapes, including the implementation of large water structures,” invites Ing. Jiří Zima, chairman of the ČSSI regional branch in Ústí nad Labem, and adds: “Leading Czech experts, not only from the Czech Union of Civil Engineers, present their experiences on individual posters.”

The ceremonial opening of the exhibition will take place in the presence of representatives of ČSSI, ČKAIT and UJEP on Thursday, May 2 at 12:00 in the vestibule of CPTO, UJEP, Pasteurova 15, Ústí nad Labem.

On May 20, from 11:00 a.m., the exhibition will be accompanied by a lecture by the world-famous landscape architect doc. Ing. Kláry Salzmann, Ph.D., specifically on the subject of the exhibition poster Landscape planning – a tool for landscape adaptation to climate change. Associate Professor Salzmann proposes projects to correct the water imbalance in the landscape and preserve its viability and resistance to climate change. It will be possible to watch her lecture online. You can find more information on the website of the project (We don’t) make it science: about climate intelligibly.

Throughout the duration of the exhibition, visitors can compete in a thematic quiz for prizes from the Faculty of Science and the Faculty of the Environment of the UJEP, which are organizing the exhibition.
