Cyclists and owners of scooters in Olomouc can use a map application to influence the future location of new bicycle racks and parking boxes for shared bicycles or electric scooters. The City Hall will take their suggestions into account when choosing new locations for the racks.
The town hall will collect objects from cyclists and scooters until the end of May. “After the completion of the collection of suggestions, their evaluation will take place and the result will be the creation of a concept for the development of parking spaces for bicycles and scooters in the city. The final result will be the creation of a public map with the current location of all stands and boxes in the city, as well as new locations suitable for their location, as well as the determination of individual stages.” stated Deputy Mayor Tomáš Pejpek (ProOlomouc).
The creation of a parking concept was recommended to the city by the European audit of the ParkPAD parking policy. “As many people as possible should be involved in data collection. That’s why we strongly encourage sharing the map app.” followed by Martin Luňáček from the city department of the chief architect.
Shared bicycles and electric scooters have been enjoying growing popularity in Olomouc for a long time. Residents and visitors take more than half a million rides on them every year. Bicycle racks are gradually increasing in the streets of Olomouc. For example, in 2022, the town hall installed another 42 with a total capacity of 84 parking spaces.
