A hot air balloon fell into the treetops in Berounsk, the Novinek reader captured its last moments

“More than ten callers reported a falling hot air balloon to our emergency line. The pilot and four passengers were traveling inside the basket,” police spokeswoman Michaela Richterová told Novinka.

The accident happened in Tovární street around a quarter to eight in the evening. The fall of the balloon was also watched by the police who arrived at the scene at that moment. The accident was captured on a mobile phone by a reader of Novinek, who provided the video to the editors.

According to the police, the pilot wanted to land with the balloon about 400 meters away. “However, he had a rope under him that got stuck on the crowns of the trees, which subsequently pulled him to the ground and among other trees in the forest,” added Richterová.

The balloon remained wedged between the trees. The police are investigating the accident, the pilot was not under the influence of alcohol.

Several units of firemen, policemen and the rescue service went to the crash site. “None of the participants in the accident were injured, we did not have to treat anyone,” added Marek Hylebrant, spokesman for the rescuers.

According to Novinek, a flight of a large number of hot air balloons took place at the airport in Bubovice today. The airport is less than 13 kilometers away as the crow flies from the accident site.
