/VIDEO, PHOTO/ For the twelfth time, those interested in a social ride along the Elbe gathered at the brewery yard. It is from here that Cyklootvírák starts every time, which in its beginnings was considered the official start of the cycling season in Polabí. However, due to the vagaries of the weather, this is no longer the case, as the main organizer and brewer of the Nymburk brewery Bohumil Valenta knows.

“Nature is ahead, the model of classic winter and spring is strongly distorted, so the opening of the season in May becomes just a formality. At the same time, however, the first Saturday in May has been firmly anchored in the calendar for 12 years and is a great date for a cycling social gathering,” reminded Valenta.
The back gate of the brewery was opened for the first participants on Saturday before nine in the morning, and by ten o’clock the organizers had about 1,200 of them registered. Due to the huge number of interested parties, the joint start has not been held for several years, so individuals and groups of riders set off at their own discretion during the entire morning. In beautiful almost summer weather, 41 kilometers were waiting for them, mainly along both riverside cycle paths through Kersko to Lysá and back through Ostra and Kostomlaty to the finish line, which was again at the brewery yard.

This year, too, we saw curious machines and suits in the field of drivers. Among other things, a chimney sweep with a brush or a guy who seems to have fallen out of the eye of one of the brewery employees from the cult film Postřižina set off on the route. A cyclist originally from Krchleb, who has been living in Germany for a long time, also arrived. “It’s a beautiful event and I’ll meet more friends here,” he said before the start.
