“Someone laid the stones on the railway line between Hradec Králové and Pardubice near the gardening colony Červený Dvůr. “Two express trains with a total of 500 passengers passed through this section shortly after each other at a speed of approximately one hundred kilometers,” said police spokeswoman Iva Kormošová, adding that the case is now being investigated for the crime of public endangerment, for which the perpetrator faces three to eight years in prison.
Fortunately, neither train was derailed, both probably passed through the section without damage. None of the passengers were injured, and none of the possible bystanders were hit by any of the stones that flew away from the track after the impact of the train set.

The train set fared worse in January this year, when a similar act took place in the same area. “A train traveling from Pardubice to Hradec Králové ran into an undetermined amount of stones that were placed on the track by an unknown perpetrator on Saturday, January 20, between 18:41 and 18:52. At the time of the impact, the train was traveling at a speed of one hundred kilometers per hour, and the driver managed to stop it after about 850 meters before the railway crossing in Fárářství. The damage to the train was calculated at fifty thousand crowns,” Kormošová recalled the case. At that time, the firemen had to evacuate fifty passengers, thirty of whom were taken to the station, the others went on foot to their homes.

“Under the influence of calls on social networks, people are increasingly endangering traffic safety by placing objects on the tracks. In addition, they violate the law prohibiting entry to the railway yard. At the same time, they do not realize that serious danger threatens not only them, but also the people on the trains,” said the spokesperson of the Railway Administration, Nela Eberl Friebová.

“In the first quarter of this year alone, there were twenty cases of objects being placed on the tracks. A continuation of this trend would almost double the number of incidents in the previous two years. Specifically, we registered fifty-three of them last year, and thirty-eight cases happened a year earlier,” Nela Eberl Friebová calculated the increase in dangerous behavior and added that in case of damage, it is recovered from the perpetrators.
“In the case of minors, of course, their parents cover the resulting damage,” warned the spokeswoman.
