ZLÍN – With joy and a castle into the new season, that is the subtitle of the (H)joy event, which traditionally opens the season at Malenovice Castle. Let yourself be drawn into the Middle Ages on Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Several entrances evoke the atmosphere of a medieval castle. “This year, for the first time, we will open with a festive fanfare, performed by the pupils of the Zlín Elementary School of Art. It will be repeated at noon, and right after it, visitors will see Renaissance dances performed by the Porta Temporis group in the forecourt,” revealed Silvie Lečíková from the museum’s sales department and the organizer of the event.

The knight’s post of the Berendal historical fencing group will bring games and attractions for little knights, which will also be complemented by period dances. “Visitors meet Berendal regularly during night tours during his bitter duels in the castle courtyard. So this year it will be under the lights and in a completely different spirit, which we hope you will also like,” noted Lečíková. Bow and crossbow shooting in cooperation with the Otrokovice archery section will be another piece in the medieval mosaic of (H)joys.
The program will not lack proven habitats that allow learning about nature and history, and especially the Middle Ages. Zlín hunters will offer the possibility of interactive and fun learning about nature and the basics of its protection. Spectators can look forward to demonstrations of hunting dog breeds, which will be presented in short commented introductions, similar to birds of prey from the Hluk Fauna Protection Station.
The museum also thought of young visitors who are already used to creating something at the castle. The blacksmith Matěj’s workshop and the station for writing with a quill or making seals, prepared by the museum’s lecturers, will certainly enable them to do so. A creative stop can also be a workshop in the shoemaker’s exhibition at the garden. The opening of Jiří Hýž’s seasonal exhibition – production of costume shoes will also take place there at 2 p.m.
There will also be stalls on site, and refreshments will be provided primarily by the proven Caffé Tečovská brána. As usual, a pleasant end to the program will be sitting by the campfire with the possibility of making your own spekáček. Such a thing is now almost as rare as writing with quill and ink to the youngest generation.
The entrance fee to the event is a pleasant 50 crowns, children under 6 years of age are admitted for free. Tours of the castle will take place at the usual times and prices throughout the day.
