BRNO – Police officers are increasingly encountering the inattention of drivers, who are more concerned with the events they pass by than the immediate traffic situation. This often happens on highways, where in the event of an accident in one direction, a column of slowing drivers will form in the opposite direction as well, who want to view the accident or even film it on a mobile phone and share it on social networks. Because of this, other collisions arise.

Last week, the beacons of a stationary police car and a passing driver caught the attention of Židenice in Brno. The patrol in Stará Osada dealt with a motorcyclist’s offense in the right lane, which attracted the attention of the driver of a car, who was so focused on the events taking place in the next lane that he drove through the intersection at a red light in the left lane. In addition, he endangered several pedestrians who were crossing the green pedestrian crossing. The police solved this driver’s offense with a block fine, and since both lanes were impassable, they let the pedestrian finish crossing the road safely. “We would like to warn not only drivers to focus on the traffic situation, but also pedestrians to always make sure that cars have stopped and they can cross the road safely. In general, especially crossings for pedestrians on roads with multiple traffic lanes are dangerous in that the driver in one lane stops and gives way to them, while the driver continues driving in the other lane,” pointed out police spokeswoman Petra Ledabylová.
