Dolní Věstonice – Archeopark

The magical wine village is hiding in the heart of the Blue Mountains, not far from Velké Bílovice and Hustopečí, and it would be a shame to miss this gem. Sometimes Vrbici is called the Hobbit because its cellar houses are very reminiscent of the cute dwellings of the famous hobbits from JRR Tolkien’s books. The system of unique local cellars, which are excavated in the sandstone rock and weave through the Stráž hill in seven floors, will take your breath away. Cellars with a typical stone facade began to be created here more than a hundred years ago in places that were originally quarries for stone and gravel.

The local church of St. Jiljí in the pseudo-Romanesque style or the Mound of Peace, a memorial to fallen soldiers and civilians during the liberation of the village at the end of World War II. It is also tempting to take a walk through the surrounding vineyards, where the Tramín, Neuburg and Riesling Vlasský varieties are grown here.

The sprawling medieval mansion can be found a few kilometers outside of Brno and you can reach it by a pleasant walk around the Brno Reservoir (from the parking lot and the terminal by tram at the Pier it’s about seven kilometers here), in the summer season you can take a cruise.

Beneath the castle is a vast network of secret underground passages, where treasure is said to be hidden to this day. Squirrels you can go around the monumental walls, where the linden avenue stretches. Of course, the castle is surrounded by many rumors and legends, the most famous of which is probably the one about the headless coachman, who, accompanied by a dog, rides in a fiery carriage every midnight in the valley below the castle.

Buchlovice Castle

The breathtaking baroque castle with a beautifully landscaped, extensive garden is a true pearl of the Slovácko region. It is located in the town of the same name, and in addition to visiting the wonderful interiors, don’t miss a walk along garden area with terraces and an English park. Children in particular will be delighted by the castle’s mini zoo, which is actually a rescue station for wild animals.

  • Uherské Hradiště – take a walk through the historical center of the metropolis of Slovácko and the wine-growing alleys, visit the Slovak Museum or the unique KovoZoo and get to know Slovak folk traditions up close.
  • Boat cruise along the Baťa Canal – drive along your own axis, the boat and houseboat rental office is in Sudoměřice.
