For many years, journalist and researcher Jaroslav Mareš has been looking for forgotten and secret stories that should have remained locked in the archives forever. Some of them got into the guarded archives due to the fact that if they were published, someone would be seriously embarrassed. The eighth episode of the Odtajněno podcast is called Hitler from Brno.

When the first republic is mentioned, the first thing that usually comes to mind is the period of freedom, independence and prosperity. But what if we could have become a fascist dictatorship even before Adolf Hitler took power in Germany? How was the Czechoslovak fascists’ attempt to take over power and why do we know so little about it?

The failed coup is one of the most bizarre parts of our history. At the beginning of the story, Ladislav Kobsinek, a member of Gajda’s National Fascist Community, is a mentally unstable and dismissed first lieutenant of the Czechoslovak Army. He came up with a plan loosely inspired by Benito Mussolini and his march on Rome. Kobsinek intended to raid two military bases in Brno and take them to Prague.

In January 1933, the strike units of the putschists attacked the barracks in Židenice. As a subject for slapstick, the action would be good if it were not for life…
