A new parking garage is being built in the Světovar area. It will be finished in two years.

The newly started construction of a large-capacity parking garage in Pilsen showed how fundamentally the prices for the construction of such facilities can differ in the Czech Republic. While in Pilsen one parking space in a new building will cost 457,000 crowns without VAT according to the contract with the contractor, the Liberec region paid 833,000 crowns without VAT for one parking space in the parking building opened this year in the center of Liberec.

Pilsen will pay Strabag 198 million crowns without VAT for the facility for 433 cars. The parking house of the Liberec region, issued as a P+R parking lot for 244 spaces, cost 203 million crowns without VAT. In the case of Pilsen, there are also three floors below ground, which usually makes construction more expensive. Pilsen builds with its own money. The Liberec region received a European subsidy for the construction.

A parody of P+R. Two people out of a hundred used the free public transport ticket in the new parking garage in Liberec

The new parking garage in Pilsen will have a total of eight floors, five of which are above ground. It will be created on Světovar in the area of former barracks and a brewery. Vehicles from Slovanská alej will drive into the parking garage.

The parking garage is an integral condition for the future housing development that will be built on Světovar. I believe that in this way the needs of not only residents, but also residents of Slavs and visitors to Pilsen will be at least partially saturated. I would like to see a large-capacity parking lot in every larger district of Pilsen in the future,” says Mayor Roman Zarzycký.

Up to ten percent electric cars

The parking garage is primarily intended to cover the needs of the area of the former Světovar barracks, where the construction of apartment buildings is being prepared. The building can accommodate up to 433 cars, while we will provide the infrastructure for up to ten percent of electric cars. We will equip the building with a parking system. All parking spaces will be paid with access to chip cards or parking tickets,” stated technical deputy Pavel Bosák.

The roof of the parking garage will be green, new utility connections will be established to the building, landscaping and paved areas are part of the project. The construction requires the realization of the transfer of the heat pipe and traction cables.

“We like the visually and structurally interesting solution of the entire building, thanks to which the parking garage fits into the emerging residential development. In particular, the unusual combination of raw walls, an airy steel facade, the distinctive colors of the interior spaces and the extensive green roof, which will accumulate a large part of the rainwater. The parking garage is designed with an emphasis on user comfort – the parking spaces are dimensioned in above-standard dimensions for 433 vehicles, including charging stations for electric cars. Now we face one of the most demanding stages of construction, namely the start of digging the construction pit,” said Radim Smékal, Technical Area Manager at Strabag. It is due to be completed in November 2026.

The architectural studio Atelier 99 is behind the proposal. According to the studio, the facade solution tries to be as airy as possible while at the same time creating a material and integral impression. More information about the building can be found on the studio’s website.
