Intimate storytelling, gentle melancholy and depths of grief – Emma Ruth Rundle on the first track Return of her latest album Engine of Hell opens the way to experiencing the innermost emotions and to reconciliation. The American singer-songwriter and visual artist will return to Karlín Barracks on August 28, 2024 with her solo, but not acoustic, show.
Folk, elements of ambient and sludge metal have been with the work of the Californian musician since the first recordings she released more than ten years ago. During her career, she created albums full of dreamy abstractions, such as on her debut Electric Guitar: One, maximalist sound textures in Nocturnes or collaborations with Chelsea Wolfe, as well as classic singer-songwriter records (Some Heavy Ocean). On the latest Engine of Hell recording, Emma Ruth Rundle returns to the neglected instrument of her childhood, the piano. Accompanied by his tones, she copes with old and new traumas, and even if she does not offer any definite solutions, her music is full of understanding.
