Through the Prague Water Management Company, the capital will modernize the Kopanina Reservoir, thereby increasing its total capacity. The reason is an increase in the volume of reserved water capacity for supplying parts of the Central Bohemian Region with drinking water, in the event of an emergency or longer-term shutdown of feeders.

On the basis of the completed Concept of water transferred within the Prague metropolitan area, drinking water supply limits for normal and extraordinary operating conditions were determined for each transfer point for the horizon of 2030 and 2050.

In the event that the supply requirements of the owners of connected water mains are higher than the limits set by the Concept, the required increase in the capacity of the transfer point can be solved in the form of co-financing of the investment.

“We have approved another increase in the capacity of Vodoje Kopanin. This is a joint project of our Prague water management company with the company Vodovody a kanalizace Beroun, which will also participate financially in the project. The new capacities will serve not only the people of Prague, but also the people of Central Bohemia in the Beroun area,” said Prague Councilor for Infrastructure Michal Hroza (TOP 09).

With this principle, the Kopanina Reservoir will be the first to be modernized, and VAK Beroun will participate financially in its higher drinking water capacity. After the necessary works for the VAK Beroun, the Prague Water Company will therefore reserve capacity at the transfer point to Vodoje Kopanina in the amount of 1,290 cubic meters, i.e. for an emergency situation such as a three-day stoppage of water supply from the tunnel water feeder from the Želivka water reservoir, etc.

The work on the Kopanina Reservoir will include, in addition to increasing the capacity of the armature chamber, also the replacement and reconnection of pipe distributions. At the same time, new shut-off valves will be installed on the pipeline.
