A strong solar storm is expected. In addition to the aurora borealis, it can bring GPS outages

According to NASA models, solar eruptions can trigger a geomagnetic storm of medium level (G2), whose manifestations include the just mentioned problems with the reception of radio waves or GPS signals, especially near the geographic poles.

According to the models, it could be possible to observe the aurora borealis on the night of Saturday, under suitable conditions, even in the middle geographical zone, including the territory of the Czech Republic.

Solar eruptions cause the ejection of coronal matter, which is in the state of plasma and consists mainly of protons and electrons. During solar eruptions, the Sun ejects huge clouds of electrified gas that hit Earth’s magnetic field at hundreds of kilometers per second.

Astronomers watch these phenomena with concern because they can cause geomagnetic storms, thus posing a danger to human technology.

So far, the northern lights were last visible over the Czech Republic on Monday night.
