Demolition of a seven-story building nicknamed the “glass hell” by the locals has begun in full swing in Pilsen on Rokycanská třída. The building of the Carimex car showroom with glass windows remained partially unapproved due to the lack of a permit, it was the subject of disputes including court cases in the past, and it was inhabited by homeless people. The new owner agreed with the city of Pilsen on the transformation of the entire area, which began with the demolition of the existing buildings. Therefore, on Tuesday, May 7, heavy equipment started working on the largest unauthorized construction site in Pilsen.
According to the plan, the cornerstone of the Úslava shopping center should be laid in the summer. Listen more
“It is a steel structure with reinforced concrete ceilings and concrete lining. We use a special sixty-ton demolition excavator with an additional grapple for this. This will gradually dismantle the entire structure and sort the individual materials,” explained Karel Lenc, who is in charge of the demolition. Only a car wash and a petrol station will remain of the entire area.
“In June, the demolition will be followed by a meeting of the council on the sale of city land to an investor who needs to reach more than 7,000 square meters. I believe that the representatives will approve the sale so that the investor can get the land and start new construction,” said Pilsen Mayor Roman Zarzycký.
According to the plan of Intercora and other investors, the foundation stone of the Úslava shopping center should be laid in the summer. This should be done by Christmas next year. In the following years, apartment buildings and an administrative building with offices will be built on the site.
