Today, Ukraine sharply increased its electricity imports and stopped its exports. The country’s largest private power producer, DTEK, lost 50 percent of its capacity after a series of attacks in recent days. This was reported by the Reuters agency with reference to the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy.

“For this day, electricity imports of 14,900 megawatt-hours (MWh) are expected. Exports are not expected,” the ministry said in a statement.

The day before the attacks on March 22, Ukraine imported 3300 MWh of electricity, exports then reached 2148 MWh.

But on Friday, production and transmission facilities in the country were attacked by Russia, Ukrainians claim. This resulted in significant power outages in many regions. In three Ukrainian regions, according to the authorities, Russia attacked energy facilities this morning as well.

“We have already evaluated the losses (of Friday’s attack), the DTEK group lost 50 percent of its production capacity, we can say this information officially,” the head of the Jasno distribution company, Serhij Kovalenko, said on state television. According to him, the Russians attacked production and distribution, hitting thermal and hydropower plants. “The enemy hit network nodes and transformers hard,” Kovalenko said.

The ministry said the Russians attempted to hit critical energy infrastructure facilities in the Lviv region today. “The equipment caught fire and the building was de-energized. There were no casualties, the consequences are being evaluated,” the office said. According to him, power lines in the Kyiv region were damaged and 1,400 households in two municipalities lost power.
