The information for the iROZHLAS.cz server was also confirmed in the afternoon by the spokeswoman of the inspection, Ivana Nguyenová. “I can confirm that the General Inspectorate of the Security Forces has opened criminal proceedings against the policeman and the policewoman. The police officer is accused of disorderly conduct and felony assault. And the policewoman is charged with disorderly conduct,” she specified.

The incident occurred on February 17 in front of a night club in Prague’s Nádražní street. The policeman, who had a blood alcohol level of 2.6 per thousand at the time of the fight, was kneeling on top of a 19-year-old girl in ceremonial uniform, as shown in a recording published by the serverBlesk.cz

He tried to forcibly stretch the girl’s legs while shouting, “Straighten your legs. I summon you in the name of the law.” He then took her by the hair and dragged her down the road. After that, he ordered his girlfriend, also a policewoman in formal clothes, to watch over the victim. She then knocked the girl down. Emergency services had to come for the young girl after the incident.

And apparently it wasn’t the only excess of the evening. One of the witnesses also described to the server how she was unexpectedly slapped by a policewoman at the door.

Released from service

The now-accused police officer, who is part of the Patrol Service Department of the Prague Police, was previously punished for the incident. His superior first put him out of service, then came a stricter step. The police officer was relieved of duty. This means that although he remains a police officer, he cannot go to work. At the same time, he receives a lower salary.

But the decision is not final. The police officer appealed, as the server iROZHLAS.cz and Radiožurnál found out. The reason, however, is not the exemption from the performance of the service itself. “The appeal concerns the obligation to be reachable, which the official ordered,” said Prague police spokesman Jan Daněk. This means that for the duration of the inspection investigation, they must stay close to their permanent residence.

The case of an aggressive police officer will now be dealt with by a superior official, who is the director of the Regional Directorate of the Police of the Capital City of Prague. “The employee continues to be exempted from service, as the appeal does not have a suspensive effect,” added Daněk.

It happened in 2020, the policeman was found guilty and his salary was reduced because of it. Again, everything took place outside working hours, so the police do not want to say what exactly it was about and whether alcohol played a role.

“Given that the member’s actions were unrelated to the performance of his service, we are not authorized to disclose this information. To clarify, when, for example, a police officer with his private vehicle commits a traffic offense in his free time, he is subsequently dealt with in disciplinary proceedings by a service official,” said Daněk.

Policewoman unpunished

During the scuffle outside the nightclub, the policeman was helped by his partner, also a policewoman, who was also in a drunken state. However, she escaped the incident without punishment. But that may soon change.

“Her superior will now conduct proceedings which may result in her being relieved of duty. That is, the same as with the policeman, who was already acquitted. After getting acquainted with the file, a decision will be made on their release,” the police said on the X social network on Thursday.

At the same time, the police previously stated on the X social network that they consider the actions of the pair unacceptable and inexcusable. The Minister of the Interior, Vít Rakušan (STAN), commented on the incident that the police do not deserve such people to tarnish its name.
