After winning 1: 0 over the USA, the Czech national hockey team secured participation in the quarterfinals of the World Hockey Championship 2022. The final ranking in Group B will be determined by Tuesday’s match against Finland. The situation in Group A is also uncertain, where Slovakia still has a chance to advance to the quarterfinals. Who has a certain advancement to the quarterfinals of the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championship?
- Group A quarterfinalists: Switzerland, Germany, the remaining two places will be occupied by two of the Canada / Denmark / Slovakia trio
- Quarterfinalists of group B: Finland, Sweden, Czechia, the last place will be taken by one of the USA / Latvia pair.
What determines the final ranking in the group?
In the case of the same gain of points at the two teams decide the match. If three or more teams end up with the same number of points in the base group, they will be created mini tablein which the criteria in mutual matches are decided according to the following order: number of points obtained – score – higher number of goals scored.
Hockey World Cup 2022 system
Until 2018, the pre-known spider of the tournament functioned, when the winner of the A1-B4 match was waiting for the winner of the A3-B2 match in the semifinals. The winner of the A4-B1 match then clashed with the winner of the A2-B3.
According to the current system, it will be done before the semifinals of the World Hockey Championship mini-table of advanced teamswhich is used according to the following criteria: – placement in the basic group – points earned in the basic group – goal difference in the basic group – number of goals scored in the basic group – ranking in the IIHF rankings
In the semifinals, the first plays with the fourth and the second with the third from the newly compiled mini-table. All semi-final matches are hosted by Nokia Arena in Tampere.
