The Czech representatives played an even match against the favored Scotland. The six-time world champions finally decided to win the championship only in the final end, which they dominated 2:0. The match against the reigning bronze medalists, the Swiss, was prematurely ended after the ninth end.
The Czech curlers are tied for ninth place in the thirteen-member table and are currently two wins short of a possible promotion to the playoffs. They will also face Norway, the Netherlands and the USA at the championship.
At the head of the standings are the Swedes, who are the only ones with a 100 percent record after eight matches. The northerners are aiming for their twelfth gold medal and fifth title from the last six championships.
