After dominating in Japan and China, the situation still looks perfect for Red Bull. However, history has shown many times how periods of dominance can quickly end. That’s why it’s important for Horner to enjoy the present.

Max Verstappen has shown complete dominance on the Formula 1 tracks in recent years. The only driver to beat the reigning world champion since last year’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix is Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who won in Singapore last year and Australia this year.

And while rivals are investing all their resources to reduce Red Bull’s lead, the world champion team is still in a league of its own. There is no doubt that the Dutch pilot will add a good number of other victories to his account this year as well.

“Max is pedaling like clockwork. He continues the pace he showed last year. If I’m not mistaken, since the last Chinese Grand Prix [v roce 2019] won 50% of all races. He has also won 21 of the last 23 races. He is in fantastic shape. He is one with the car, one with the team and he enjoys racing,” Red Bull boss Christian Horner describes the achievements of his charge.

But while the situation looks perfect for Red Bull at the moment, Horner is fully aware that history has shown many times how periods of dominance can end quickly – and that’s why his team is taking nothing for granted.

“I think you have to be able to appreciate success. Max is a special talent. He’s just going through his golden age, but as we’ve seen with other pilots, it never lasts forever.”

“It’s important to enjoy the moment, to live in the moment. There is no guarantee that we will be able to give him such a car every year for the next five years. So it’s about doing what we can while we can.”

At the beginning of this season, it seemed that Red Bull might be under more pressure from their rivals than last year. But Verstappen’s dominance in the Japanese and Chinese Grands Prix showed that the world champion team once again eluded everyone.

But Horner thinks that Red Bull’s lead in the last two races was mainly due to the fact that this year’s Red Bull RB20 car is much more suited to the configuration of the tracks in Japan and China, which are characterized by long corners. In the next races, everything can be different again.

“I think it was due to the specification of the track, so it’s likely that the field will be closer together again in the next few races.”

“Also, we haven’t raced in really hot temperatures or anything like that. So there are still an awful lot of variables. But on all the types of circuits we’ve driven on so far, the RB20 works and the riders – especially Max – are doing an excellent job,” concludes Horner.
