In less than 2 months, Tim Cook will sign in, say his iconic “Good morning” and start the WWDC 2024 conference. Apple will take the opening word and present the news regarding its operating systems, whether it’s iOS, watchOS, macOS, or the new visionOS. Let’s go through all the highlights leading up to the launch in June and the expected release in September.

The presentation of iOS 18 will take place on June 10

A big caveat must be made here – this is the only publicly available official information we know about the expected mobile operating system update. Apple has already officially announced when its WWDC developer conference will be held, and that’s also the date each year the new iOS is unveiled (among other things, as noted).

It will happen June 10, 2024. On this date, Apple will have its own “show” at the WWDC event, which traditionally belongs to the opening of the several-day conference. It remains to be determined what time the press conference will take place. However, an evening date can be assumed, most likely 7 p.m.

First developer beta on June 10th

In recent years, the launch of the first developer beta version has automatically been associated with the introduction of new systems. It should – according to traditional rules, which cannot be guaranteed – be available to all developers right after the end of the press conference, i.e. still on June 10. Of course, anyone can download it, but it is not recommended, because non-public beta versions are often full of bugs that still need to be fixed.

First public beta in the first half of July

The first open beta is intended for the general public so that customers can try new features before the live release. As calculated by 9to5Mac, the release of the public beta usually follows 4-5 weeks after the introduction. A properly tuned and improved version should be available most likely in the first half of July.

Official release of iOS 18 in the second half of September

And we will stay with traditions for a while. Customers will enjoy the summer with the public beta. However, an absolutely key event for Apple is coming in September – the presentation of new iPhones, the integral part of which will be the new version of iOS. But the problem here is that concrete data is not even floating in the air yet.

The month for the introduction of iPhones is traditionally September, usually the second or third week of this month. Some leakers believe that the unveiling of the iPhone 16 family will happen sometime between September 9 and 17. The release of an iOS update is then closely linked to the start of sales of new iPhones. It is very likely that iOS 18 will be released that way in the week of September 16 to 22.

However, keep in mind that the information provided is based on speculation, historical experience and is not official. It might be an exaggeration to say that “this is how it was years ago”, but no one but Apple can say how it will be this year.
