- According to people at Apple, current CEO Tim Cook will last at least three more years
- Even so, there is speculation about his successor, he should be hardware engineer John Ternus
Timothy Donald Cook, nicknamed “Tim”, has served as Apple’s CEO since 2011, when then-chief and founder Steve Jobs resigned. Under Cook’s hands, Apple turned into a much more innovative company focused on, among other things, the environmental impact of its products. However, in recent years, there has been a lot of discussion about who will replace the iconic man in the management of the company.
Who will be the new boss of Apple?
The news about possible successors of Tim Cook as the main person of Apple was brought by the Bloomberg agency. According to journalist Mark Gurman, practically only two scenarios are possible, which differ only in when exactly the expected change will occur.

Cook will celebrate his 64th birthday this November, and speculation about his successor must therefore be seen as a natural debate, not as a call for an end. Citing his sources close to the company, Gurman states that “there is no reason to believe that a change in leadership is imminent”. On the contrary, the source states that the change will not take place in the next three years, rather later.
Ambitious John Ternus
But when that happens, who will take the so-called helm? The most talked about is 49-year-old John Ternus, who currently holds the position of senior vice president for hardware engineering. It can be seen in his presentation that he tries to perform and is not absent at practically any press conference. During the introduction of the new iPads at the London conference, Ternus stood alongside marketing chief Joswiak at the end of the presentation to greet journalists.
In his report, Gurman quotes some anonymous Apple employees: “Tim [Cook] he likes him very much because he can present well, he is very gentle, he never puts anything controversial in an email and he is very restrained in making decisions. He has many managerial qualities like Tim.”
Ternus is an American, he joined Apple in 2001, and his first big projects included, for example, AirPods headphones. Today, he leads the development division for Mac, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, HomePod, AirPods and Apple Watch. As one of the main figures, he was also behind the transition to Apple’s own Silicon computer chips, and his biggest achievements in the computer field include the 2021 iMac redesign.
