We took the Motorola Edge 50 Pro into the desert. She doesn’t mind sand or water, her beauty stood out all the more – MobilMania.cz

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro is the first of three newly introduced new products from the American manufacturer that has already gone on sale. In the Czech Republic, it is available in a single memory variant of 12 + 512 GB, but also in three colors: white, purple and black.

While the last two mentioned have a leatherette surface on the back, the white variant is special and, in our opinion, certainly the most interesting. It uses a matte polymer finish that is handcrafted in Italy, so the patterning on each piece is also unique. But the stripes are always horizontal. This material is very pleasant to the hand, non-slip and easy to wash.

But this is a feature of all the color and material variants of the Edge 50 Pro. They are resistant according to the degree of protection IP68, they do not mind a short water bath, splashes and even flying dust. That’s why we were able to take the phone to the African desert with peace of mind, where it was not harmed even by the scattered sand.

Motorola tries unconventional colors and materials. You'll love the Edge 50 Ultra with a wooden back

This Motorola is one of the most elegant phones today, its design is not flashy, but rather minimalist and decent. This is mainly due to the unobtrusive integration of the rear camera lens into the rest of the back. Although the module naturally partially protrudes above the surface due to the included optics, it does not unnecessarily draw attention to itself. It’s a nice change from the current trend where some manufacturers use a giant circular camera module that looks like a submarine window.

The use of a curved P-OLED display on the sides also suggests that Motorola is not particularly subject to the current trends set by the competition. Here, it is probably not possible to universally say whether it is good or bad, both straight and curved panels have something in common. It is certain that the curvature fits the elegant profile and that the narrower mobile phone will be especially appreciated by women’s hands.

The panel itself is optimally large, although perhaps a little too wide-angle and therefore elongated in height. The maximum brightness is sufficient, even in the direct desert sun everything could be read without any problems. If the phone seems a bit too slim at the waist, you can dress it up with a color-coordinated shell back cover, which you can find directly in the package. This increases the thickness a little, but the hold is more secure.

Excellent lighting and good macro

In terms of equipment, the phone cannot be faulted – it is simply an honest upper class. We will not repeat all the parameters unnecessarily, we said them when introducing all three phones of the Edge 50 series. In order for it to be a real flagship (which is the Edge 50 Ultra model), it would have to have a slightly more powerful processor and perhaps an even more advanced camera. But not for all users these parameters are crucial.

The Edge 50 Pro takes pictures very well, thanks, among other things, to the uniquely high aperture parameter of the f1.4 primary camera, which doesn’t even have a higher Ultra (however, it uses larger points on the sensor to get more light). We see the reserve mostly with the wide angle and the zoom, but for example, it handles macro excellently, and that with focusing from a distance of 3 cm. The selfie camera also takes good pictures, which does not forget about automatic focus, which is quite important for portraits. You can check out some sample photos taken on the Edge 50 Pro in the gallery below.

Although Motorola tries to have a battery with a capacity of at least five thousand milliampere hours in all of its smartphones, it was not possible here (and in the Ultra) due to design reasons while maintaining the required thickness. The battery has a capacity of 4500 mAh. But it’s no tragedy, because right in the package you get an adapter and a double-sided USB-C cable for lightning-fast 125 W charging, and wireless charging can also be really fast (up to 50 W) if you have the right pad. But you will have to buy this separately.

In addition to the phone itself, the package also includes a protective case, a pin, a USB-C cable and a 125W plug adapter. The box is again decently perfumed

All in all, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro is a very promising high-end smartphone that will appeal to you mainly with its design, but also with its unadulterated equipment and practical functions, such as fast charging or taking nice macro shots. Only in terms of software support, Motorola could do a little more. Today, five-year support is the standard, but the Americans only promise three major Android updates, that is, from the current Android 14 to version 17.
