- The popular chatbot WhatsApp is testing an improved top bar that is displayed during an active call
- You can now use it to mute the microphone or hang up the call
- For now, the new feature is only available to a limited number of beta testers
Although WhatsApp is primarily a text communication platform, many people also rely on its voice calls. Voice calling is the standard in messaging apps today, but that doesn’t mean that app developers can’t change or improve things every now and then. WhatsApp is now testing a redesigned top bar for voice calls. This redesigned top bar of the app appears when you leave the main call screen, as pointed out by WABetaInfo.
Ending a call or muting the microphone is even easier
Instead of only showing call duration in the top bar of the app, this updated design adds a mute/mute button on the left and an end call button on the right. WABetaInfo reports that the feature is currently in limited testing, which explains why you might not necessarily find it even after downloading version 2.24.10.18. It is currently unclear whether the WhatsApp developers are also considering changing the main calling UI, although it is being offered.
The option to mute the microphone during a call or quickly end a call directly from the top bar will definitely come in handy. In its current form, these actions in WhatsApp require users to return to the main call screen. So having these two action buttons on the top bar of the app is definitely useful, especially when you’re out of the app and doing something else on your phone during a call.
Don’t overlook
Hell has frozen over, WhatsApp lets you dial an unknown number
A new audio call bar feature is available to some testers who install the latest WhatsApp Android beta updates from the Google Play Store, which will roll out to even more people in the coming days. It is not yet certain when we will see the launch of the sharp version.
