Seventeen years in prison. Such a verdict was handed down on Thursday morning at the Regional Court in Brno in the case of a murder in Rajhrad. The 68-year-old Josef N. was supposed to douse her with flammable liquid the year before last November and then set her on fire in a house in Rajhrad in the Brno region.

According to the convict’s earlier words, the couple’s years of cohabitation resembled an Italian marriage. The deceased woman banished mental discomfort with antidepressants and alcohol, quarrels were not an exception in the household. Disputes often ended in domestic violence, when partners attacked each other.

It was in the moments before the tragedy that another of a series of disagreements apparently occurred in the house. “We know how the victim solved these problems, with alcohol in combination with tranquilizers. After eating, she went to lie down, she was slightly dizzy from them. This was the victim’s way of escaping from conflicts with the defendant. It can be reasonably assumed that the victim also reached for this solution that fateful evening,” said prosecutor Marek Vagai earlier.
