On two sand courts in the area of Dolní Vítkovice, 16 couples in the female and male categories will compete for titles and advancement to the Olympic Games at the ELITE 16 level. The Czech men’s number one players Perušič and Schweiner will not meet in Ostrava for the seventh time, even though they have already secured participation in Paris by winning last year’s world championship.

“For the home fans, our best beach volleyball players, who have so far been among the top four pairs every time, will once again be the biggest attraction of the tournament,” said the chairman of the Czech Volleyball Association, Marek Pakosta. “From a sporting point of view, this year has another significance. It is the last event before the conclusion of the Olympic qualification for the Paris Games. The prestige of the tournament could not be greater for that reason either. The best world couples and the Czech women’s number 1 will compete for the last available places in Paris,” continued Pakosta.

The Czech beach volleyball players Barbora Hermannová and Marie Sára Štochlová will receive a wild card from the organizing national federation. “It can be a decisive factor for them in the fight for the Olympics. At the moment, they are just below the line, and the very participation in the elite sixteen guarantees a high point allocation. Each victory increases their chances,” explained Pakosta.

The new trophy and its author Radovan Šťastný

The Norwegians Christian Sørum and Anders Mol and the Brazilian Eduarda Duda Lisboa have already celebrated twice in Ostrava. The Vikings, as the Norwegian couple is nicknamed, and Duda with partner Ana Patrícia hold the first position in the current world ranking and should not meet in Ostrava.

“For this year’s edition, we have chosen the motto ‘It’s about the stars’, because the fans in Ostrava will once again see the best world teams as well as future Olympic champions,” said Marek Tesař from the organizing agency Raul! and added that the interest in the tournament is huge, which is confirmed by the sold-out weekend days.

The winners of the Ostrava tournament will lift a brand new trophy from the Purposia Group workshop. Its author is multi-artist and sports enthusiast Radovan Šťastný. “The best pairs will lift above their heads a prize made of metal, which represents pipes typical of the Lower Region, and a beach volleyball ball, which was shaped and welded from metal nuts,” described Jan Hasík from Purposia Group.

The organizers have also prepared several other novelties for the 7th year of the sports festival. For example, a fifth beach volleyball court for the public will be built in the enlarged fan zone. Online pre-sale of tickets from 200 to 350 crowns takes place in the Ticketportal network at vstupenky.ostravabeachpro.cz.
