Armaments like the Ukrainians. Mexican cartels are already using Javelin anti-tank missiles

--

Mexican cartels are getting tougher in their fight against the government. Mexican television station Milenio released footage showing a member of the infamous Cartel del Golfo carrying a Javelin anti-tank missile launcher on his back. According to some experts, it may also be a Swedish-made AT-4 launcher. Mexican cartel violence has been on the rise in recent months, and Texas authorities, for example, are warning their citizens against visiting Mexico. For example, it informs the Zero Hedge server.

Footage from Mexican television shows a man wearing a bulletproof vest with Cartel del Golfo symbols (Cartel from the Gulf, pos. red) with a Kalashnikov over his shoulder and an FGM-148 Javelin missile launcher. According to some experts, on the contrary, it is a Swedish AT-4 launcher. The footage, taken in the border town of Matamoros in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, which is located on the border with the US Texas, appeared on social networks.

The FGM-148 Javelin rocket launcher is intended for launching rockets from the shoulder or from a car, it weighs approximately 12 kilograms. It has a range of 2.5 kilometers to 4.75 kilometers. It has been part of the US Army or Marine Corps equipment since the first half of the 1990s. It also plays a significant role in the conflict in Ukraine, where quickly delivered Javelin systems helped repel the first attacks of Russian tanks in Ukraine.

The violence of drug cartels on the Mexico-US border has been increasing in recent months. In March, Texas advised its residents not to travel to Mexico. Some Texas politicians have even proposed sending US armed forces to Mexico. The Mexican government called this the height of arrogance. In March, one of the Mexican cartels kidnapped 4 American citizens in the city of Matamoros. During the kidnapping, cartel members also shot a Mexican bystander. The cartel subsequently turned the shooter over to the police with a letter stating that the shooters acted out of their own discretion and lack of discipline, and that the shooters violated the cartel’s own rules regarding protecting the lives of innocent people. The letter was signed by the Skorpions, an offshoot of the Cartel del Golfo.
