France: Ban on gender changes before the age of 18? “Young people are pushing for it with campaigns.”

--

The French Senate intends to block attempts at gender reassignment. A report warning of ethical risks landed in the senatorial benches. Senator Jacqueline Eustache-Brini is working on a bill that would make it impossible to actively advocate for a child’s sex change before the age of 18. The report also states that fashion trends have played an important role in gender reassignment efforts.

Server British conservative newspaper The Telegraph pointed out that after reading a report warning of the ethical risks of gender reassignment, French senators intend to block the pathways leading to gender reassignment before the age of 18 by law. The report literally states that this is “one of the biggest ethical scandals in the history of medicine”.

“The report, commissioned by the opposition center-right party Les Republicains (LR), documents the various practices of health professionals who they claim are indoctrinated with a ‘trans-affirmative’ ideology under the influence of experienced trans activist associations. The report, which cites a “tense scientific and medical debate,” accuses such associations “of encouraging gender reassignment in minors through intensive propaganda campaigns on social media,” the site wrote.

The law, which is supposed to prohibit the administration of hormone blockers to persons under the age of 18, should be ready by the summer.

“The child is not old enough to ask to change his body,” said one of the mothers of the children who underwent hormonal treatment. “My daughter only needed a certificate from a psychiatrist, which she received after an hour’s consultation. But doctors do not explain the consequences of puberty blockers. … My daughter didn’t realize that life wasn’t going to be easy with all the treatments… She was a great little girl, but now she’s failing in school. And she is far from finding a solution to her problems.”

In this context, the British The Telegraph recalled that the administration of puberty blockers is already limited in Great Britain. France’s health regulatory body, the Haute Autorité de Santé, has already investigated a similar move.

However, activists, some doctors and psychologists are sounding the alarm that the implementation of such a law could lead to an increase in suicides among young people in France.

Citing British, Swedish and American studies, the report says the number of children identifying as trans has risen sharply over the past decade. One hospital in Paris receives about 40 new applications from minors each year, with 16 percent of them under 12 and many suffering from other problems, the report said.

Another worrying phenomenon highlighted by the parliamentary report is the over-representation of girls, who make up 80% of gender reassignment requests. On this fact pointed out the European conservatives.
