Malaria is caused by the parasite plasmodium protozoa, which is transmitted to the hunter when bitten by an infected mosquito, the hunter cannot be infected by the sick person. Shingles-like symptoms such as fever, chills, sweating, headache, or weakness appear in a week and 30 days.

According to information from the American Center for Disease Control, the disease occurs mainly in Africa, but cases have also been recorded in Central and other America, in the Caribbean, in South and Southeast Asia, in the Middle East or in the Pacific and Australia.

The number of people imported into the Czech Republic gradually increased along with the increasing popularity of travel to exotic countries. In the 1990s, it happened once that no more than 30 people per year would flood, since 2014 it has been estkrt. According to experts, travelers should not think about the risk of malaria unless they are traveling to countries where malaria is endemic. According to them, information about the risks of infection, for example from travel agencies, would help.

It didn’t occur to me that the first nausea could have something to do with malaria and I ate late. Late meant two days, Ludk, a patient who contracted malaria while on vacation in Zanzibar, described in the press. A disease that doesn’t occur there, and fetters against it are not mandatory, he added.

According to the doctor, the levels of plasmodium in his blood were so high that the organism was in danger of failing. He had to be put into a soft sleeper and connected to a harness support. He was admitted to the hospital at the end of January, he was on respiratory support for a few weeks, and the house was moving after rehabilitation at the clinic at the end of May. He was able to breathe, swallow, speak, sit and walk again. He mobilized his mind to remember who he is, where he belongs, what his past is like, his mistress described in the press.

Protection against infection is to prevent mosquito bites, use mosquito nets and special repellants. In the case of an external risk, the doctor should prescribe preventive antimalarials, but the decision is made individually for each patient. People should therefore visit the travel medical office approximately four to six weeks before their trip, and depending on the destination, they will be advised to take a suitable vaccine, for example, against typhoid or typhoid fever type A.

If the patient is suspected of malaria after returning from vacation, the diagnosis is confirmed with the help of laboratory tests that show the presence of the parasite in the red blood cells under a microscope. In remote areas of the world, rapid diagnostic blood tests are also used, which are similar to antigen tests for covid-19.
