Election posters in Arabic. In Germany. An attack and a big fuss

--

The German CDU caused a stir in Leipzig. Before the municipal elections, which will take place simultaneously with the European Parliament elections, the right-wing party decided to reach out to Arabic and Turkish-speaking voters. In one of the neighborhoods, he promises to advocate for greater security and order. On four hundred posters. “And after one night everything was torn down and stolen!” wrote the server of the most read German newspaper Bild.

In this context, CDU representatives talk about incredible vandalism.

“We developed them together with migrant businessmen there, and the businessmen put up our posters there themselves,” Leipzig CDU chief Andreas Nowak told Bildu. “We are also reaching out to the Arabic and Turkish speaking residents of this neighborhood and making it clear what we expect,” Nowak added.

What exactly is on the pre-election posters?

“More safety and order in our residential area” and “Stopping the Superblock”, a controversial transport project in Leipzig.

According to Nowak, all these posters could have been torn down by left-wing extremists.

“I’ve been campaigning since 1990. But I’ve never experienced an attack like this,” Nowak noted according to the news website Niuswho pointed out that the posters of the Greens and Social Democracy remained in place in the same district.

The police have received a criminal report in connection with this case, which they are investigating for possible damage to property.

However, Bild added one note to the case. “In fact, the CDU only posted the Arabic and Turkish versions in the area around the infamous Eisenbahnstrasse. Hotspot of migration and crime in Leipzig,” wrote the server.

The CDU itself faces criticism. For alleged hypocrisy. Because the CDU is currently promoting a turnaround in migration policy. Tougher on migrants.

Leipzig city councilor, lawyer, environmentalist, blogger Jürgen Kasek stated that in Leipzig the CDU has raised the level of lying to a new level.

“Also a whole new level of lying. Above, CDU posters on Eisenbahnstrasse, below in the rest of Leipzig,” Kasek wrote, pointing to the fact that on the first poster in the heart of Leipzig, the CDU speaks to voters in Arabic, but on the second poster, the same CDU reports a turn (Kehrtwende) in migration policy.

The German news website Nius.de quoted the AfD’s statement on these pre-election posters.

“CDU is not a lesser evil, it is evil,” wrote AfD candidate Maximilian Krah. And he contrasted the poster with a demand for a change in migration policy.
