Estonia has accused Russia of violating international airspace regulations. He commits it by interfering with the GPS navigation system.

“GPS jamming in Estonian airspace by the Russian Federation has affected civil aviation in our region. By doing so, Russia is violating international regulations,” https://twitter.com/Tsahkna/status/1785022379933979096 on the X social network Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna.

The matter will be discussed with allies in NATO and the European Union, Reuters describes.

Finnair announced on Monday that it would suspend its flights to Tartu in eastern Estonia for a month due to persistent GPS failures that prevented two planes from landing.

The suspension of flights is mainly so that the airport can install an alternative method of approach that does not rely on the GPS system, Finnair said. Most airports already have similar alternative facilities.

The Finnish airline said it did not know where the interference was coming from, but that there had been an increase in incidents since 2022. The carrier experienced similar problems near the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad and Finland’s eastern border with Russia.

At the end of March, there was also the largest interference with the GPS signal so far, which affected 1,600 flights. As Seznam Zprávy wrote earlier, the source of the interference was noticed precisely in the Russian Kaliningrad, which is located between Lithuania and Poland. The German Ministry of Defense came to a similar conclusion this month.
