Greta Thunberg was fined for blocking the entrance to the parliament

--

Thunberg and a group of other activists stood in front of the main entrance to the parliament to draw attention to the urgency of climate action. She refused to obey the police’s calls to clear the place. In the end, the lawmen had to take her out. Despite the protest, MPs were able to enter the parliament through the side entrances, writes t-online.de.

She was accused of civil disobedience. In court, she defended her behavior by saying that we are in a climate emergency that requires action. She said current laws protect the mining industry rather than people and the planet, which she said should be changed. In the end, she left the court only with a financial fine, the Kronen Zeitung newspaper reported.

It is not the first time that Thunberg has ended up in court for similar acts. In July and October last year, Fassova received fines for civil disobedience during climate protests.

She started protesting for the climate as a 15-year-old schoolgirl, when she was in front of the Swedish parliament every Friday. This activity later led to worldwide demonstrations called Fridays for Future. After graduating high school, she ended these school strikes, but continues to regularly participate in climate protests and other events.
