Last August, major players on the Czech and Slovak electronics market, HP Tronic and Nay, announced a merger agreement. The aim of the merger is, among other things, to convert all stores under its brand in the given territory.

In the case of the Czech HP Tronic, this means that their Datart brand will accommodate the Czech Electro World stores, and the Slovakian Nay, in turn, the Datart stores in Slovakia, which will now bear the same name.

“Our intention is to concentrate Slovak activities under the management of Nay and the Nay brand, and activities in the Czech Republic under the Datart brand and Datart management. That’s what we’re moving towards,” Datart spokeswoman Petra Psotková confirmed to Novinkám.

However, the Slovak antimonopoly office stands in the way. While the Czech Office for the Protection of Economic Competition has already approved the merger of the two companies, the regulator in Slovakia is taking its time.

“An important condition is the approval of the merger by the Slovak PMÚ (Antimonopoly Office). However, this has not yet been released, which means we are still in the ‘waiting’ phase. It is therefore not possible to provide more specific information at this time,” added Psotková.

The chairman of the board of directors of HP Tronic, Daniel Veceřa, told the Seznam Zprávy server that he believes that the authority’s decision could be made in a few weeks. According to him, the subsequent rebranding will cost tens of millions more.

HP Tronic announced on Monday that it has become the sole owner of Datart after it agreed with Genesis Private Equity Fund III from the Genesis Capital Group to buy a quarter stake.
