In Brno, one of the most daring conductors of classical music struck a chord with several important composers. “Thanks to Janáček, Martinů and Dvořák, I feel that I have acquired a wonderful new repertoire,” says Davies in an interview for MF DNES, in which he also recalls the only moment from his career that brought tears to his eyes.

You live permanently in Linz, you are the chief conductor of the Brno Philharmonic and also of the Central German Radio Symphony Orchestra in Leipzig. Don’t you ever feel very angry?
Brno is my second home, even though I live in Linz, where I was chief conductor of the Bruckner Orchestra and director of the opera for fifteen seasons. I don’t plan to move anywhere, mainly because of my age, and Brno is very close to Linz. But you have to take care of yourself and live a relatively healthy life, which of course I try to take care of. However, I do a job that I love, so it’s not difficult for me at all. In fact, it’s just about being able to plan everything well.

Dvořák, Mozart, Brahms or Rachmaninov, all these composers have left us a great guide that we can follow.
