Huge fire in Tehovec near Prague: The Hecht garden center was on fire

“During the fire, no one was injured or inhaled smoke, even a complex intervention in nighttime conditions took place without injury, so the crew of the medical rescue service from the Říčany post was sent back,” stated Holomčík. Firefighters went to the incident on Wednesday around 18:30. The object of the Hecht garden equipment chain was on fire. The smoke could be seen from far away in the evening.

According to Holomčík, the fire hit the roof space with an area of ​​approximately 30 by 20 meters and spread quickly through the roof. Before 7:30 p.m., the fire brigade announced the third level of fire alarm, after 10:00 p.m. the commander of the intervention declared a special, i.e. the highest level of alarm and called another technician and firemen so that they could take turns at work. Firefighters drew water from the fire reservoir in Tehovec and later also from the Požár pond in Louňovice.

“If the situation allowed, several jets of water were deployed through the interior of the building. However, the firefighters deployed more currents from ladders and platforms, as it was necessary to extinguish the roof engulfed in flames“, Holomčík described the intervention. Shortly before 11:00 p.m., firefighters from the ground floor of the building were able to start removing goods to a place guarded by the police. The measurement of the amount of pollutants in the air did not detect an excess of hygienic limits.

After the fire was contained around 11:15 p.m., some of the nearly 200 responding firefighters were able to begin returning to base. “The direct damages were tentatively estimated at several tens of millions of crowns, the exact amount will be determined after the investigation of the event, as well as the determination of the cause of the fire,” said Holomčík. According to him, the investigators will return to the scene on Thursday morning.
