Roaring doe in the bushes. The poacher in Semilska was under surveillance, he confessed under the weight of evidence

As early as last fall, the hunting owner in Vysoké nad Jizerou began to receive reports that a poacher was moving in his territory, laying traps in the form of wire loops.

The hunters therefore increased the control of the territory they manage, and in December they obtained proof that the spreading rumors were not false.

During one of the patrols, they noticed a young doe wandering in the bushes, and it seemed that she could not leave the place. Upon approaching her, they discovered that she was caught in a wire poacher’s eye. “She was probably trapped for a long time as her neck was injured from the wire she was entangled in. The second eye of the wire was attached to the trunk of the bush. The hunters arrived just in time. The doe no longer had the strength and was suffocating and wheezing in the tight noose,” described police spokeswoman Klára Jeníčková.

Crime stories

The hunters freed the doe and set it free. After searching the surroundings, they found three more baited eyes. “This method, as the hunters themselves state, is very cruel. “The animal is caught in a wire mesh, which when trying to free itself causes bloody injuries and tightening of the noose, resulting in an agonizing death under great stress,” pointed out Jeníčková.

Poacher’s eye

According to her, the police identified the perpetrators in Vysoké nad Jizerou in cooperation with hunters and based on a local investigation. “The 62-year-old man then confessed to his crime under the weight of the evidence obtained. The reason for his poaching was a taste for venison. He did not realize the consequences of his actions, including the agonizing death of the animal. He faces up to five years in prison for poaching,” the spokeswoman added.

In the Liberec region, police officers investigate approximately three cases of poaching each year. These are not only home-made traps, but also illegal game hunting, even during the hunting season.
