If you enter the name Bonsaimuseum Isabelia in the navigation, you will find yourself in the Old Town near Uherské Hradiště directly in the kingdom of bonsai. It was created in 2000 and originally focused on orchids and perennials. Over time, however, they focused their attention on small trees and today they devote all their care exclusively to them. And you can tell. The garden is full of unique things. “We are located in the part of the museum, where the most beautiful and rare bonsais are on display,” says gardener Veronika Manová.
Visitors can enjoy, for example, a view of a tamarisk tree, which next year will become the Tree of the Year in the ŠuTry competition, or a beautifully shaped palm-leaf maple, or Japanese azaleas, which bloom in all possible colors during May.
The garden is divided into sections. After the visitor has gone through the museum exposition, he can freely move to the Japanese garden. Of course, there is also a pond in which koi carp roam. The garden offers several rest zones where the visitor can stay, relax and just enjoy the view of the surrounding beauty.
The oldest local bonsai can also be seen in the Japanese garden. “It’s a juniper and it’s already six hundred years old. It is one of the few trees whose age we know,” reveals the gardener. When they had to cut off one of its large branches, the dendrologist put it under a microscope and counted the years.
The visitor should not miss a building in the area during the tour. Suiseki stones can be seen in that one. Hand-polished and brought to perfection, the stones are painstakingly set in a hand-crafted wooden base. “Here you can find, for example, a real petrified dinosaur egg or a stone that looks like a snowy mountain,” adds Veronika Manová.
