They attacked at 200 km/h. Three men behind the wheel of powerful cars handed in their driver’s license on D1 at Easter

--

The first driver’s license was taken away by the police patrol on Saturday, March 30, around 8:30 in the morning. The speed of an Audi A7 with a Czech registration plate was measured by the radar at 189 km/h. The driver, a 51-year-old man, will find out the definitive impact of his haste, just like the others, only in the administrative proceedings. But they forced him to slow down considerably already at the 111th km of D1 in the direction of Prague.

“If a driver exceeds the maximum permitted speed by 40 km/h in the municipality and by 50 km/h outside the municipality, he must expect that the police will withhold his driver’s license on the spot and his offense will be dealt with in administrative proceedings , where he faces a fine of up to 25,000 crowns, a driving ban for six to eighteen months and six penalty points under the point system,” police spokeswoman Dana Čírtková summarized the effects of the legislative change, which came into effect on January 1 this year.

Two more driver’s licenses were seized for the same reason by the police on the Vysočin section of the highway on April 1. One also around half past eight in the morning and also the driver of an Audi car, this time a Q7, also in the direction of Prague, at the 115th km. A 20-year-old foreigner was behind the wheel, and according to radar data, he was speeding along the route at a maximum speed of 193 km/h.

The treble was completed on the same day shortly after noon by a 41-year-old foreigner sitting behind the wheel of a Ferrari registered in the Czech Republic. The device placed in the Škoda Superb police car measured 218 km/h. He was driving in the direction of Brno and had to find alternative transport from the Měřín exit.

All three drivers committed the offenses with a clear head, at least according to the results of the breathalyzer test.

“I consider driving on the D1 highway at a speed approaching or even exceeding 200 kilometers per hour to be gambling with human life. There was quite heavy traffic on the highway on Saturday and Monday, and these drivers could endanger others with their driving. At such a high speed, it is difficult for the driver to react in time, and above all to react adequately in the event that an obstacle appears in front of him, or a slowly moving vehicle at the end of the convoy,” pointed out Jiří Šoukal, head of the Velkoberan highway department of the Police of the Czech Republic.
