The Czech Republic experienced a tragic Easter weekend! There were 41 accidents on the roads of the Pilsen region

During the Easter holidays, the police detected more than 400 offenses on the roads of the Pilsen Region and prevented traffic accidents with serious consequences.

During the spring Easter holidays, a traffic safety event called “Easter” took place. From Friday, March 29 to Monday, April 1, around 3,000 police officers supervised road traffic safety on traffic routes throughout the Czech Republic. “On the territory of the Pilsen region, police officers checked compliance with the ban on the consumption of alcohol and other addictive substances, compliance with the maximum permitted speed, the manner of driving, the use of seat belts and restraint systems, and last but not least, the technical condition of vehicles.” said police spokesperson Iva Vršecká.

Police officers checked 1,144 vehicles during the event and found a total of 403 violations. “The most common offense was failure to observe the maximum permitted speed, which drivers violated in 175 cases. This was followed by 79 drivers who used a vehicle in unsatisfactory technical condition, 17 drivers held a mobile phone while driving, and in 15 cases the police fined them for not using seat belts or restraints system. Four drivers then committed the offense of not yielding the right of way, 3 drivers had a positive breathalyzer test and 3 drivers had a positive orientation test for addictive substances.” added Vršecká, stating that during the Easter period there were 41 serious traffic accidents in which one person was killed, 4 were seriously injured and 23 suffered minor injuries. Five drivers who were involved in a traffic accident were found by the police to have consumed alcohol before driving.
