“On Tuesday, April 2, in the afternoon, we received two notifications regarding the discovery of suspicious objects. The first such case occurred during the cleaning of a house in Pilsen. These were shells of an artillery shell,” said Barbora Šmaterová, police spokesperson.
In the second reported case, parts of unexploded ammunition were found, this time during the clearing of a garage in Kaznějovsk. “In both cases, the finders behaved correctly, did not manipulate the objects in any way and reported their discovery to us. Not only police officers from the relevant departments arrived at the sites of the finds, but also pyrotechnicians, who secured the suspicious objects and took them over for disposal.” explained Šmaterová.
Another similar case has been dealt with since the beginning of the week by Klato criminal investigators. However, in this case, an unknown object exploded. The explosion caused serious injury to a forty-two-year-old man, who had to be airlifted to a medical facility.
According to initial information, the explosion occurred during the clearing and subsequent burning of straw and things from the land of the original owner of the house in Klatovsk. A specialist from the Department of Forensic Techniques and Expertise, pyrotechnicians and a forensic expert were called to the scene.
“During the search, a ball bomb and fireworks were found at the scene. The investigator in the case initiated criminal proceedings on suspicion of committing the offense of serious bodily injury due to negligence. What caused the explosion in this case is subject to further investigation.” a police spokeswoman said.
The police appeal to the public! “In connection with these cases, and not only with them, but also with other findings of suspicious objects resembling ammunition, explosives or fireworks, we warn citizens not to handle any such objects under any circumstances! The danger of these found things lies mainly in the fact that it is not clear in what state they are in,” appeals Barbora Šmaterová.
Therefore, if you find objects anywhere (whether during excavation work or cleaning) that you suspect could be an explosive object, ammunition or its component, stop all activity and call the Police of the Czech Republic.
Failure to comply with these principles is very dangerous and any handling of these suspicious objects may endanger the life and health of persons.
