Jiří is a popular name for many Czech men: according to estimates, there are over 300,000 of them in the Czech Republic. The meaning of the name Jiří is derived from the Greek word géorgos, i.e. farmer or grower. The same name is found all over the world, although it has different variants: in Slovakia it is Juraj, in Poland Jerzy, in Hungary György, in German Jürgen, in English George and in Spanish Jorge. Probably the most famous bearer of this name in our country was King George of Poděbrady.

Daily issues of living with a visual impairment and a guide dog
“We invite you to talk about life with a visual impairment and life with a guide dog. We will talk about the specifics of living with a visual impairment and dealing with everyday issues without visual control. We will introduce the aids we use to compensate for vision and also talk about guide dog skills,” specify Skvrnany District Library & M-Klub and BLINDička, or the Life of a Practically Blind Woman. Scout tram 2024
After five years, the SCOUT TRAM is back in Pilsen! There is no better way to celebrate the feast of St. Jiří than with a guitar, in costume and with other scouts.
Meeting: at 18:00 at terminal 4 on Košutka, end: at 18:30 at the Borský park stop.
“You can join anywhere along the way. We will sing, play the guitar, talk, celebrate the scouting holiday. We will have a good time!” the scouts promise.
Don’t forget that at 19:00 the Skoutská tram will be followed by a game for the Pilsen rover team and leaders.

The Plavci band, with a sixty-year history, is one of the biggest stars on the Czech music scene and it probably doesn’t even need to be introduced in more detail. Jan Vančura, who joined the band in the very first year of its existence, went on a partially solo journey in 2012 and assembled a group of musicians around him from his friends and colleagues, which continues the legacy of the good old Plavec / Rangers from earlier times. In addition to Honza and his distinctive voice, in this line-up you can hear the Fiedler siblings from the musician’s incubator in the popular Na Ostrovy country pub in Nachod, and Mário Bihári, a Czech-Slovak piano and accordion virtuoso, known for example from Zuzana Navarová’s Koa group. An extraordinary musical experience guaranteed!

For children and adults, Divadlo Alfa presents the romantic but also horror opera The Wizard especially in the evening 24. 4. from 19:00. The playful contemporary interpretation of Weber’s most famous piece introduces the world of opera to children and teenagers in an original way, opening the way to the magical world of music and theater. What boy today wouldn’t want to be a wizard in computer games? But what if he wants to be the best so badly that he receives an offer to become a wizard from the devil Samiel himself? Treffpunkt Festival
Bavaria – the Czech festival will take place from 25/4 to 27/4 in DEPO2015.
The Treffpunkt Festival, this year the tenth traditional Czech-Bavarian meeting with stylish music, good wheat beer and Pilsner beer and tasty food, will take place on the last weekend of April in the decorated hall and now also in the courtyard of DEPO2015. Due to the great interest of visitors, compared to last year, the festival will be expanded into more spaces, more bars and seating will be added, and a gastro zone will be created with service offering specialties of Bavarian as well as Czech cuisine. It is another step towards greater convenience and comfort for visitors.
Of course, there is also popular musical accompaniment. For three days – Thursday and Friday evenings, and all day on Saturday – visitors will have a good time with Czech and Bavarian bands. Bavarian Connection from Regensburg will play on Thursday, April 25. This true Bavarian party-band has been gathering experience for many years not only at the biggest Bavarian bierfests, but also represents Bavaria on stages from Chicago to Sri Lanka. However, they will visit Pilsen for the first time.
Due to last year’s great success, the popular band Gletscherfetzer XXL will also perform this year, so Friday evening will be in the spirit of traditional Bavarian music and German dance hits. And for Saturday evening, the organizers of Treffpunkt have prepared a real specialty: the girls’ party-band Mädchenalarm! In addition to the mentioned Bavarian premium groups, other Czech bands of various genres and an accompanying program will be on the program.
The festival of Bavarian culture will once again take place in the DEPO2015 area. You can enjoy traditional Bavarian specialties such as mixed beer cheese “Obatzda” or Weißwurst with pretzel while sitting in traditional Bavarian beer gardens while listening to various bands. There will be Bavarian and Pilsen beers.
Vernissage of the Cult of Holy Bodies exhibition will take place on Thursday 25 April from 18:00 at Gallery Vetengl, Černá věž, Pražská 309/19.
The exhibition presents ten works that present the period of Baroque piety and provides a detailed view of the decoration of the remaining reliquaries. The accompanying panels will introduce you to the veneration of holy bodies and allow you to view details of the exhibits that you cannot see with the naked eye.
The works are mainly made of cut glass stones, wires, brocades, a large number of metallic threads and metal foils. The skeletal remains on display are very well patinated replicas. The exhibition will be on view from 4/27 to 10/25.

Pianist, improviser and singer Veronika Ptáčková will perform famous hits and covers of unforgettable songs, fairy tales, film and musical melodies from the starry musical sky. In a single evening, the gates of time will open for you in one place, in which for example Schindler’s List, Once Upon a Time in the West, The Mission, Cinderella, Krkonoše Fairy Tales, etc. by the authors J. Williams, E. Morricone, K. Svoboda, V. Petrov, all this mixed with the hits of H. Zagorová, M. Rottrová and others, to whom we will pay tribute together with the guest of the evening – the clarinetist Maria Benešová.

Petr Nouzovský is one of the most famous Czech cellists. He performs on many prestigious stages (Amsterdam, Munich, Moscow…). His playing is rated superlative for its technique and original interpretation. Petr Nouzovský will play the Concerto for cello and orchestra by Pilsen composer Karel Pexidro. The Pilsen Philharmonic will also add 4 marches for 4 percussionists by Karel Sodomka and Symphony No. 1 in E major by Josef Suk. Chief conductor of the Pilsen Philharmonic, Chuhei Iwasaki, directs.
