Mladí ladí jazz – the tenth time overall and specifically the seventh time this year at Karlák in Prague 2. Come and celebrate International Jazz Day on April 30, 2024, together with artists who do not see their chosen genre as a rigid musical category, but instead allow themselves to be influenced in their work by musical and cultural traditions from all corners of the world. At this year’s open air festival, for example, Prago Union will perform, accompanied by the brass group Krotitelé Dechů, but also bands from abroad – free jazz Don Kapot will arrive from Belgium, and the German club scene will be represented by nu-jazz Jazzanova and folklore-inspired Searching for Home.

The popular jazz open-air festival celebrates its tenth birthday this year. It is taking place for the seventh time right on Karlov náměstí in Prague 2. The date of the festival has its own symbolism – the International Jazz Day, declared by the United Nations and its organization for education, science and culture, UNESCO, falls on April 30 every year. The open air event is always the culmination of a year-long series of club concerts organized under the Mladí ladí jazz brand.

This year, visitors can look forward to the legendary Czech rap band Prago Union. Its frontman and main author of most of the lyrics Adam Svatoš aka Kato will perform at Mladí ladí jazz accompanied by the brass band Tamers of the Breath. Another star of the jazz line-up is the Belgian group Don Kapot, whose work straddles the border between free jazz, afrobeat and krautpunk. It is a popular three-piece group from Brussels, consisting of guitarist and bassist Giotis Damianidis, saxophonist and keyboardist Viktor Perdieus and drummer Jakob Warmenbol.

The last two performing groups will arrive at Mladí ladí jazz Open Air from Germany. The Jazzanova group consists of six Berlin-based DJs and producers – Alexander Barck, Claas Brieler, Jürgen von Knoblauch, Roskow Kretschmann, Stefan Leisinger and Axel Reinemer. Together, they have been enriching the German club scene since 1995 with a mix of nu-jazz, chillout and jazz house. The second German band, Searching for Home, in addition to jazz and fusion, implements the influences of trap and Middle Eastern and African folklore into their performances.

Visitors will traditionally also have a chill out zone available to them, which will be run by the main media partner of the festival, Czech Radio Vltava. From there, its editors will conduct interviews with this year’s interesting guests and broadcast all concerts live.

Mladí ladí jazz Open Air 2024 will take place on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, on Charles Square. As in previous years, entrance to the festival is free. However, the event organizers can be supported at least by purchasing a virtual ticket through the portal GoOut.cz.

The event is co-organized by the Municipal District of Prague 2 and sponsored by Mayor Jan Korseska (ODS), Councilor for Culture Jaroslav Šolc (ODS) and, on behalf of the Capital City Council, also Councilor for Culture, Jiří Pospíšil (TOP 09). The event is also supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.
