Progress in the preparation of two Ostrava skyscrapers. The city has another interested party

--

“This week Ostrava councilors selected a new candidate for the purchase of land with the so-called Ostrava Skyscraper in Ostrčilová Street in the city center,” said Ostrava spokeswoman Gabriela Pokorná.

Ostrava’s deputy mayor for property Jiří Vávra (ANO) added that the city is still continuing its efforts to save the third tallest building in Ostrava. The New Town Hall building is the tallest, behind it is the Bolt Tower observation tower in Ostrava’s Dolní oblast Vítkovice, which was created by converting a blast furnace.

“We have specified and de facto simplified some procedural matters of the intention to sell. For example, the buyback of housing units and parking spaces is no longer among our goals,” the deputy specified, adding that the city currently has a basic condition for buyers, namely to comply with the proposal of architect Jiřičná.

Two applicants applied

Two applicants applied for the competition, which the city announced again last October, the winner offered a purchase price of 55 million crowns without VAT. According to the spokesperson, he also agreed to pay 6.4 million crowns for the transfer of documentation. However, the design of the AI-Design studio, which was created under the leadership of Jiřičná and architect Petr Vágner, must be followed.

“It is not possible to speculate in advance about the results of negotiations with interested parties. The solution proposal for the tower block on Ostrčilová Street, which includes the construction of apartments and the construction of a parking garage, is nevertheless a manifestation of the process of saving the city’s landmarks,” said Deputy Mayor Hana Tichánková.

This is what the existing skyscraper should look like after reconstruction according to the design of architect Eva Jiřičná.

The apartment building has been vacant since 2013

The proposal for the solution of the tower house was developed in 2020 to 2021. The house is preserved and proposed for its reconstruction and extension. There should be up to 76 new apartments in the building, from one-room apartments to maisonette-type apartments.

During the reconstruction, the reinforced concrete structure should be preserved, it should have a green facade, including central irrigation. There will be a reception and a green roof on the parking garage.

A skyscraper is to be created from this socialist tower block.

The apartment building has been empty since 2013 due to technical problems. In the past, the city also considered its demolition, but finally decided to save it. It was built between 1965 and 1968 as part of the Jindřiška housing estate according to the design of architect Jan Slezák. It served as a residential building for only a few years, then was converted into an office building.

The competition for the second Ostrava skyscraper has ended

According to the information Novinká managed to obtain, the Ostrava Towers Complex international architectural competition for the construction of another Ostrava skyscraper, nicknamed Slza, ended in April. With a height of 238 meters, it should be the tallest building not only in Ostrava, but in the whole of the Czech Republic. It is to be built near the Forum shopping center in Nova Karolina.

Five architectural studios participated in the competition. “The jury met last week and selected the winning proposal. However, we will reveal the winner only after the evaluation of the competition, which the jury is currently working on. Then all contestants will be contacted and the winner will be contacted. We assume that we will share specific information with the public in the second half of May,” Michaela Vávrová from RT Torax, which is an investor, told Novinkám on Thursday.
