On Thursday, the Central Bohemian regional councilors approved a resolution according to which the progress of the Prague part would fundamentally complicate the situation for all Central Bohemians, therefore the measure needs to be resolved and coordinated together with the region. The governorship is on the side of the municipalities, because it is not possible to unilaterally transfer the problem of the municipal district to the region, informed the regional councilor for public transport Petr Borecký (STAN) in a press release.
Representatives of Prague 6 City Hall announced their plans for new traffic measures on Wednesday. In the first phase of the solution, the city district wanted to extend the validity of the bus lanes and introduce a new bus lane in Karlovarská Street in the section between the D6 exit and Slánská Street. In case the preference for buses did not bring sufficient results, Prague 6 wanted to consider the use of light barriers.
The city district has been dealing with excessive traffic and the formation of queues in residential areas for commuting for a long time.
The management of Prague 6 regrets the attitude of the region and considers the mayors of the surrounding municipalities with whom it deals to be more accommodating.
In his statement, Borecký focused on the fact that Prague politicians demand that Central Bohemians go to Prague only by public transport, but the Prague 6 district blocks the construction of the expressway to Kladno.
“At the same time, it is again Prague 6 that opposes the intention of the Central Bohemian Region to build a tram line to Velké Přílepy, and another part of Prague, Suchdol, has been blocking the construction of the northwestern part of the Prague ring road for decades,” the councilor noted. The completion of the highway ring should benefit the traffic situation in Prague in the future.
According to the information available to the governor’s office, the district should now negotiate with the Prague municipality, the Technical Communications Administration and the Prague transport organizer Ropid. “On behalf of the Central Bohemian Region, I will unequivocally demand from the representatives of the capital city of Prague that this solution is not approached without prior coordination with the Central Bohemian Region and its municipalities,” added Borecký.
“We regret that the leadership of the Central Bohemian Region does not agree with the preference for public transport. In this regard, the mayors of the Central Bohemian municipalities around Prague 6 are more enlightened, which we appreciate. It also emerged from the meeting with the mayor that they are unhappy with how the Central Bohemian Region is insufficiently investing in roads in the region and in the operation of Prague’s integrated transport,” councilor Ondřej Matěj Hrubeš (ODS) told ČTK.
